That's why I suggested buying a warranty and 'accidentally' get the 3RLD once they get the quieter drives and get a brand new quiet 65nm 360.

So I should sabotage my console when the reworked one comes out? I dont like the sounds of that.

@ABE

Is the fan on the Elite a lot quieter than the premium? I don't know if the noise problem is as big as I think but the one I borrowed was really bad, so this is the impretion I was just left with after I returned it. (it is his second 360 due to RROD too)

lol and I thought I was picky. Dont expect to get a 360 this year lol might as well just get a pc. By the time MS makes the 360 up to your standards you could be playing Gears of War 2 on Windows Vienna.

Ya it always seems really bad at first because your not use to it. I cant even hear it anymore but that might be because people actually use there mics online and I use custom tracks in all my games.

Nope, not at all. but buy the time they redo the entire system (pretty much what you said) it'll be time for the next gen, lol.

And you must be playing in silence. The 360 isn't any louder then a computer.

LOL, that's what my girl wants me to buy instead, I need a new one anyway. If they don't rework the hardware before Jan/08, I'll probably just pick up an Elite. Speaking of which there must be a drought with those things, I cant find them anymore.

Well, when I played at night I had to use my headphones because I couldn't hear anything but the fan/drive (not that way on my PS3) but that makes me feel better because it seems the one I had was just really bad.

When I had my 360 it seemed loud at first but once i got in the game I never noticed it. With the music and sound system, I only noticed it when I paused the game and there was no sound, but that happens with my PS2 and XBox also.

It's a little quieter, but not by much. My Elite didn't come with a Ben-Q drive though. (Those drives purr compared to all of the others.)

I heard the BenQ drive was quieter, but not as quite as you might think it might be.

I was playing Gears at a friends house recently and never even noticed the noise the 360 made. Doesn't have a BenQ drive either.

My 360 is pretty damn loud.

But when you start playing you don't notice.

Default EB games to recall all 360's in Australia

Quote:
EB Games Australia have issued a recall on their Xbox 360s. Not just their own personal display or demo units. Every single Premium Xbox 360 they had in-stock. Sources within the company have confirmed that two weeks ago (approx June 29) store managers were first asked by Head Office to test every unit in-stock for errors, but were then ordered last week to return their entire inventories of the console, as well as remove all 360 promotional material and dummy boxes from their stores. The recall is believed to be due to a faulty batch of HDDs, as it did not include Core units.

The weird thing is, there wasn't anything wrong with the actual systems, but the hard drives, something the 360 has never had a problem with.

I was on the phone with their customer support last night because I wanted to send in my Elite. Long story short for the reason why is that a game came in from gamefly with three tiny nic along the outer rim of the disc. I debated about whether to play it or not and decided to roll the dice; I shouldn't have.
When the drive starts spinning now to start reading a disc, it makes a loud noise and it's as if it has become unbalanced. (So that's the reason why.)

Here's the bad part. The customer service rep said that since the warranty extension, they are being overwhelmed with calls from people who's consoles RROD'd but were outside the warranty period and were not willing to pay for the extra service charge to fix them. Due to this, she said that there is a chance that if my unit is not fixable (or cost effective on their end to fix) it will be replaced.

Here's the kicker; there is a 50/50 chance that they will be sending me back a refurb and not a new unit. I asked, even with the Elites? She said yes.

She also mentioned that there is currently over a three business week wait on getting them back. It's not a big deal in my case since I still have my Premium that I haven't sold on craigslist yet, but if I didn't have a backup console, I would fly off the handle. I'm just really not to keen on the idea that I would get a refurb'd unit sent to me two or so months after I picked up an Elite.

You can't really get too upset with them.

Imagine how flooded they must be right now.

Its going to take awhile to clear the line.

I know, I called after work and was on hold for 30 minutes before I got through and I talked to the customer service chick for a while because she was actually being helpful and informative. She said there was something like 140 calls in the queue after she was done with mine. (I'm sure it was all together and not just her line.)

I had some bad service from them the last time I called. I was basically lied to about how to get the data migration kit sent to me. I got so upset that I asked for a supervisor and they wouldn't put one on. I even got a follow up call like three days later to review what went on with the call, and got the impression that they let that person go.

I'm pretty sure I've been hung up on a few times while I've been on hold.

I've found the customer service to be pretty bad.

Maybe not at the customer support but I would be super pissed at MicroSoft. I don't know how they're getting away with this. Sorry Abe, I can imagine how you and many other people feel.

I won't be getting a 360 until next year, maybe a price drop will come but I won't put up with ****ty hardware. Even if it has games, I'm not going to bother.

Check out this thread (I dare you to read 1st to last post, if you already haven't) and tell me you want a 360, some of these people are on their 3rd and 4th 360. The fuinniest thing is the comment about the boxes and choosing to wait for them or just using your own box. Some people wait for the coffin some people re-use the one MS just sent their last 360 in.

I can't wait for them to get the new units out there because I want it and I have waited so long.

I still want a 360.

I can ***** about the bad hardware all I want, but the truth is, there is a lot of ****ing good games, and for the month that I had my 360, probably the most fun I've had with a console for the 1st month I had it. Seriously.

I'm just going to get a 360 plus 2 year warranty. Then by the time they put in the 65nm chips, which will be within 2 years at least, I'll be able to replace my 360 with a brand new system once it breaks.

And user friendly, I remember you saying that if they don't plan on fixing the hardware until 2008, you'll just get one now. What happened to that?

Im not supporting a company who released a year early just to "TRY" and get a jump on both Nintendo and Sony. They probably knew about this hardware issue and was like "ahh, it wont turn out to be that bad, just a couple here and there.... right boys" Yeah well, Im not buying it. They screwed over a ton of people and Im not going to be one of those people. Yes it has good games, but how are you supposed to play those games while you're waiting 4 to 6 weeks for MS to send your console back.

They don't deserve my business, besides... my PS3 is good company and there are 2 games that should keep me busy until Uncharted. I still want a 360 but only when I know what the hell is going on.

Im surprised there arent more disgruntled folk around here. I seem more angry about this and it hasn't even really affected me.

People put up with it because they love their 360 I guess. It fun enough that people are willing to put up with the bad hardware.

Although luckily Microsoft is supposed to be use the 65nm 'Falcon' chip this fall, so yay

And I understand where you're coming from. Someone has to stand up and just say to Microsoft 'Enough is enough, I'm not buying you're shoddy product'. Good on you

Sadly there are too many good games to make me not buy a 360

Thats funny so did sony(with the price drop, blu ray offer, and the fact that the PS3 you bought will be obsolete in a year)yet I dont see you whining about that. Just face the facts you wont be buying a xbox 360 so stop lying to yourself and go back to the PS3 forums.

I'm not even going to bother quoting you. I have my reasons, I don't need a 360. I don't want one until I know I can get one with 65nm chips because I DO want one, I like Halo and Gears blew me away. I'm not a fanboy..... at least not as much as I used to be during the N64 vs PS1 days.

I just don't feel like getting stuck without a 360. I just read over at GAF that right out of the box, he got RROD. I could just see myself in that position, why not avoid it if I can.

Thats funny you can read here or ask people who have launched 360s yet never had a single problem yet you dont care about that? Do you not understand that that doesn't happen as often as you think plus if the rare chance does you can get a new one free. Wheres bad?

I dont understand your logic. So because I searched the web and saw people who bricked there Wii's I shouldnt buy one because it might brick? Thats how you sound.

Also imo you dont have a right to complain about something until you own it. Want to complain about the 360? Buy one first.

It seems like it's just a matter of time though.

Wha? Did these people brick there Wii's by attempting to mod, if so that's totally different. Listen, I know they are going to rework the mobo and decrease the chip size, so I want to wait. My logic is fine.

But that's why I don't have it because I don't want to be left complaining about it. Why is it a big deal that I want to wait?

I understand perfectly how UF wants to go about getting a Xbox and I'm gonna do the same and wait. Sinfulfate I think you need to re-read what you said as your the only one that seems like a fanboy in this situation.

Wha? Did these people brick there Wii's by attempting to mod, if so that's totally different. Listen, I know they are going to rework the mobo and decrease the chip size, so I want to wait. My logic is fine.
People have turned on a brand new Wii and it bricked no modding or anything.

But that's why I don't have it because I don't want to be left complaining about it. Why is it a big deal that I want to wait?
Thats fine then dont complain at all now which you have been doing.

The Wiis hardware isn't as good as you might think. The Wifi overheats and damages the GPU. Happened to mine, and now games that are graphically heavy and use the GPU a lot, look messed up.

And I can understand user friendlys logic, and I'm sure he can understand mine.

Wait, there are more games that do that besides RE4?
Wow Nintendo, what happened to rock solid hardware

And just to add to the logic thing, I understand UF's logic as well. At one point I was in the same situation as him, though I gave up and bought a 360 anyways because I was tired of waiting.

Then I take it out of the box, and go figure, it scratches disks.

The new unit I got has been fine though.
