360 price cut confirmed!

The 360 is really remarkable becasue it is one of the longest running consoles without having a price cut yet. Almost 2 years now. Reason being is that its been selling so well it didn't need a price cut, so now when we finally get one it would be predicted it wouldn't be a big one.

As for the wii, hell, I doubt that'll ever get a price cut, its sold almost as many as the 360 and basically worth just "throw around money"

Let me reword that.... I think is was premature. I still think keeping the price where it's at and then dropping it by $100 once Halo is released is a smarter move. $50 will help now but another $50 down the road isn't. Im just guessing at what they're planning to do with the price but a $100 cut as well as Halo 3 would be a megaton. That's all, if this does drop by a $100 in the next few days, I may jusy buy one.

The $50 will help in time for some big games like Madden, Bioshock and Blue Dragon in August.

that would be cool also. But I guess since most say that they didn't really need a price drop, $50 seems good.

I'm not buying a 360 until halo 3 comes out....So any changes between now and then are welcome Though I'm less concerned about buying a 360 since splinter cell: conviction was delayed (yes I wanted that more then halo 3)

I think the 360 and PS3 have way more staying power though. We'll see. I agree on your theory but Nintendo is able to keep at such a low cost because it really is a cheap machine to build. Sony's catching up and I think the Wii will start to lose it's momentum in about a year or so.

Yes but big, good, games continue to not be released on the Wii. They are going to need to continuosly release very good first party titles or get some good third party titles if they are going to continue to sell games.

I disagree. It has a 120 GB HDD. That is still 40 GB bigger than the new PS3 model that is going to be released and the new PS3 is also losing the Emotion Engine so backwards compatability is pwned. Yes but the HD DVD player has been reduced to $179 and if you buy it between August 1st and September 30th you get 5 free HD DVD movies with it. Microsoft lets you choose if you want to pay the extra money for the HD movie player, Sony doesn't. Also the Elite supposedly has a design change that prevents the RRoD from happening. So you can pay $449 for a Xbox 360 with a 120 GB HDD or $599 for a PS3 with an 80 GB HDD, now which is pathetic?

The 80GB and current EU SKU have about 70% to 80% backwards compatability with PS2 games and 100% with PS1, hardly "pwned" at all. 360 BC is the bigger candidate for pwnage, PS3's wins with either SKU, even the ones that have the EE stripped. You can't even have BC if you don't have a HDD for 360, so if you bought the core, you have to buy the HDD. Also, software emulation can improve on the visuals so it could be worth it to loose the chips and hardware BC.

That hasn't been confirmed. It could drop to $499 once the 60GB is gone, it could stay at $599 though, but it hasn't happened yet.

Cool, pretty much the same deal with blu ray. But you don't have this tentacle protruding from your console. They also chose to allow blu ray to be used for games, MS has not. Having extra disk space is a rather large advantage.

Im pretty sure that all SKU's have been reworked, why would they only fix the one SKU. Something that should have been done since day one, so I don't get your arguement there.

Once again this is where Microsoft puts the decision in the hands of the consumer. If you don't want the backwards compatibility you don't have to pay for it. Your right software emulation can improve the visuals, like the 360 has from the beginning.

This is the part of your argument that completely loses me. How is it pretty much the same? You don't get to choose if you get the HD movie playback with the PS3 and you don't get any free HD movies with the PS3. The extra space is not necessary for games yet. If RPG's need more space as they will probably be the only games that need it they can do the same thing on the Playstation, use multiple discs not a big deal.

That's not confirmation at all, it's only in regards to the 60 GB phase out. Which we all knew anyway. Give me a quote from a Sony exec. or pres. saying that the 80GB SKU is going to stay at $599 once the 60GB are completely gone then I'll beleive it. I wouldn't put it past Sony to keep it at $599 but it would be a bad move on their part. They wont sell it as a bundle and drop it too $499, that's what I think anyway.

Certain devs have already stated about having problems fitting everything in one DVD9, and for games like GTA, multiple disc wont cut it.

Maybe not for certain games but as I said, it could be a problem with a game like GTA. Don't get me wrong, DVD9 is ok for now but I think that will change in a year or two and if/when that time comes PS3 will be already packed and ready for action.

Another useless link. Of course it's in production and some people are even claiming that there repairs are being sent back with "proper" heatsinks. That doesn't mean I can go to the store and buy one without having to look for a specific serial #. You said which one is more pathetic and I gave my answer, which was the "broken 360". A lot of flyers are suggesting a price drop. I was in Walmart yesterday and FutureShop today, it was still the same price.
