True, but they can't distinguish who had problems or who didn't - I didn't have any problems (except recovering my XBL account).

Well if they left it up forever, new XBL members who joined wayy after the problems occured would be able to download it for free.

No, when Microsoft says so every gold member will be able to download a free game Microsoft will choose.
Its to "pay back" what some users had to go through with the xbox live service.

They never specifically said that you would be able to choose the game title :/

It's probably going to be one of the new ones, they'll just release as a free title, that would save a lotta work.

If their is a choice, I can make 3 gold trials on my xbox since I haven't used them up yet and download 3 different games. Then I don't play them til I am on my regular account then they will act as if I bought the game.

I think users who have been with xbox live sinceit launched got 200 MS points. Why would they give you 800+ for a week of somewhat downtime.

This is something to compensate for their incompetence.

And, once again (since you seem to have a problem with this whole reading thing), IT WAS NOT "SOMEWHAT" DOWN. IT WAS COMPLETELY INOPERABLE FOR MANY PEOPLE FOR ALMOST 10 DAYS.

Ask Abe, he'll tell you... I could do NOTHING for over a week. That's nothing as in NO THING... Even when I could log in, (which I couldn't do for about a week), I couldn't do anything. Matchmaking in all the games I tried was broken, my Marketplace blade wouldn't even load, and I could never stay logged in longer than 15 minutes... It's nice that it was up, but it doesn't mean anything if nothing works.

I'm tired of you, and everybody telling me it was "only 2-3 days" when it wasn't... It was 10 days of complete inoperability.

I had problems like DFS for the most part of 4 days or so, but at certain points in the day I could get into halo matchmaking and play a game or 2, and there were 250,000 people in halo 3, so it was not messed up for everyone obviously....

Still, I'm down for free ****....

Like I said, it wasn't messed up for everyone, but if you read the Xbox.com forums during the down time, I wasn't the only one having those problems, for that long.

Im still haveing problem with xbox live it just keep signing me out.
during 3rd or 5th log in it fix.

I agree with you the problem has been running for ages and even now is not the same, it didnt really start at christmas though. I have had three xboxs (red ring) and when i updated to the fall update it made my xbox feel sluggish like it was when it first came out. (spring update was so efficent) but the last ones buggy as hell. That is why when at xmas when loads of people were of work, or got a new system i think it screwed the network up;
