Today at CES '08 Bandai-Namco revealed two guest characters that are going to appear in Soul Calibur 4. They are the famous Darth Vader and Yoda from Star Wars.

I can honestly say I am stunned, confused, and unsure about this mix-match. Yea in Soul Calibur 2 they had odd guest characters but this is even more so odd. Just hope they are at least good characters, not some broken added-on-last-minute characters.

Seems pretty disgusting to me, if this is their marketing scheme then I think they're in trouble...is spongebob next?

Did they reveal who the hooded character was? I hope it's Zasalamel.

Yea, wasn't best move on their part marketing-wise. It might have worked for Nintendo in Super Smash Bros Brawl, but they didn't use too random of a character either -- Solid Snake for those wondering who I am referring to.

Yes, I understand what you mean about Snake. But his appearance wasn't totally random, there was a reason behind it, and wasn't totally irrelevant. Most people would say that he fits and his appearance is understandable, unlike this abomination.

This is totally random, and I don't think anything can explain this.
Whatever they're doing isn't doing any justice to the game.

One more thing, they got Darth Vader's textures and proportions are all completely wrong. I don't remember him being a fatty and being covered by a mattress. And why do his buttons look like a toy?

Yea that's what I mean. He wasn't that random. Had been on a Nintendo console before and was an actual gaming character. Yea he seems to fit very well based on the video I've seen so far.

There is really no way to explain this one other than they are trying to draw in more people, hidden project with Lucasarts, or trying to make up for horrible sales of Soul Calibur 3.

Imagine how many people are going to use them online. This is gonna suck, especially if they make Vader's 'NOOOO!' his dying scream.

Overall a crap move IMO, they should have stuck with something console specific, like the rumors of Kratos for the PS3 and Chief for 360.

The master chief type thing has already been done in DOA4.
While it wasn't him, Nicole is pretty much the same thing.

They will be the most played with characters sadly. It will be worse if they are cheap.....*cough* force powers *cough*. If they have them, I hope it is only force push and force grab. Also, can only be used so many times per match.

Yea my first reaction was this "WHAT THE ****?!?". Yea, it would have been cool to do something console specific like they did with Soul Calibur 2.

Hopefully they get blocked when you guard, I remember they did that with the Episode III game duel areas, which actually weren't half bad. Yoda will probably be annoying to guard impact too, whereas Vader will be easy.

I find this very stupid. Soul Calibur and Star Wars have NO connection whatsoever. I hope that they will change their minds.

I remember when Darth Maul was in THPS3.

Hell, They could put Joey Budifuco in there and this game will still kick ass.

UPDATE: I recieved more info on these characters. Apparently Vader is PS3 only and Yoda is 360 only.

Vader is black, PS3 is black. Yoda is green, 360 is mostly green.

I wonder if they'll make cross console play possible. That'd be cool

UPDATE 2: Gametrailers has the trailer for it from CES '08. By the looks of it. They will have force powers. At least they are staying true to the license.

Never have I seen people get so upset about videogame characters. I mean, wtf at Ninjax calling it an "abomination". It's awesome and it's making me want to play Soul Calibur for the first time in my life.

And just because they will have force powers doesn't mean they will be unbeatable. I'm sure they will be just as balanced as every other character.
