It was a nice dream, at any rate. Faster than you can say Yoichi Wada comes news from Square Enix (via 1up) that the Reuters article from yesterday, which hinted at possible next-generation Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy titles for the Xbox 360, are inaccurate. It appears that Sony will continue to hold the main Final Fantasy franchise as long as it still can.

Xbox 360 owners still have the online-centric Final Fantasy XI. There is always a chance Square Enix could one day move allegiances, but right now they still seem adamant to stick (at least, primarily) to the now-dominant Sony PlayStation 2.

We’ll update this post as soon as more information is released.

Microsoft doesn't have enough exposure in Japan, it would be suicidal for Square-Enix to release their 2 biggest franchises on Xbox360. Probably will have to wait for FFXX/FFXXI/FFXXII on Xbox1080

Me either but think about it, how many great exclusives does sony really have? No way they'll let go of final fantasy, final fantasy is one of the few reasons to own a playstation and they need it to sell the ps3. Would you buy a ps3 if you could have halo doa and final fantasy on the 360? No way in hell.

It would be quite a waste of money, because who in Japan would buy it for Xbox360? Just like FFXI, who is going to buy it for Xbox360? It's been out for years on PC and PS2.

I'll buy it for 360. Ive never seen it in action before so it'll be new to me. And im not too fond of playing games on the pc so i'll like having it on the 360.

Lol well there's one customer.

My point was, an MMO like FFXI, most of the people who wanted to play it had about 2 1/2 years to give it a try. It's very hard for an MMO to get new subscribers so late in the game

I think it has a shot, alot of potential 360 customers most likely had xbox instead of playstation and never got to get their hands on it. And didnt you have to buy a hd for that or something like that? What game was that for?

Yes that was for FFXI on PS2, but again we're forgetting the fact that it's on PC as well. So whoever wanted the game but didn't have a PS2, probably got it for PC. I think it's the better selling version of the two anyway.

Yes of course, but the bad part about that is that people on PS2 and PC will have a huge advantage over 360 players. It's kind of a double edged sword, either you make them compatible with eachother causing that problem, or you split them off, which will make the 360 version have a much lower population from the others.

Eh I think Microsoft just wants to be able to say they have a Final Fantasy game on Xbox360.

they dont have a source quote for this? im willing to bet my left nut SE said nothing of the sort regarding it being only on ps3. they wouldnt say that after wada said (and i can actually quote him btw if need be) that FF nor DQ series will be exclusive to ps3. he said that at e3 moments after he confirmed several other games will come to 360 from the company at M$'s conference.

most likely what happened was reuters initially misrepresented the news by making it sound like its a done deal when there is still a LOT more to consider. SE wont make a decision on this for a while yet. but joystiq is making an assumption about them remaining exclusive to ps3, especially after what all was stated at e3.

in short, this article means that they dont want ppl to get hyped up for soemthing that they are far from certain on just yet. but it almost certainly does NOT mean the games WONT be on 360 either.

sorta. in japan, the beta is included free on teh 360 hdd all for $350. pretty nice deal and everyone who gets a 360 gets it for the time being.

If you asked me...i don't think its that big of a deal if its exclusive or not..if its not...then i'll buy it for the 360(and i'm sure others would) if its not..the ps3 will sell...but i don't think the ps3 will sell just for that...there are other games that many are awaiting for on the ps3

i agree. ps3 will sell in japan regardless if these are on 360. at best these on 360 will help add a small dent to the ps3 lead itll get in that region, but not much. its more of a coup to get it the series for future leverage i think. in NA netierh of these franchises are system sellers. very few bought a ps2 for FFX and since then the series has lost TONS of pull in NA and europe. these games on whatever system wont matter any in sales. but i'd like to have them if only to have more games on the system, even tho i wouldnt buy them.

Well, i''ve never liked RPG's, I think Halo is horribly overrated (and horribly mediocre), and I would never play DOA over Soul Caliber... NEVER!!!

Are you joking? I can understand not liking rpgs, theyre not for everyone, and halo is extremely overrated but i have to say it's the best multiplayer fps ever but eh, again not for everyone. But come on, soul cailbur? It's good, but NOTHING compared to DOA as a fighter. Soul Blade? Yes. But not calibur.

Thats what makes it good, it's super fast paced and the countering makes it perfect.

If your comparing it to Soul Caliber 3, then I understand... That blew...

But Soul Blade, Soul Caliber, and Soul Caliber 2 owns (or if oyu want to get real dirty, "pwns") every other fighter you can throw out... I can't imagine Namco could screw up SC 4 like they did 3...

And Halo isn't even close to the best Multiplayer FPS ever... Not by a long shot... I'd take Timesplitters 3, or Counter Strike over Halo 1, 2, 3, 6, 10, 89 any day...

I like timesplitters and counterstrike but theyre just not halo, i dont even think halo is better, it has just become the norm. Halo is gonna be to fps games as kleenex is to tissue lol.
