You remember back when Microsoft announced that they were releasing 2 SKU's that they were going to have more premium units than core units? I do, and it pisses me off that they lied about it. If you don't already know, the store I preordered at only got a bunch of core units. Then I called Walmart and they said they will only have 2 premium units and 5 or 6 core units. What do you think happened? I think I know. Its all those contests. Every unit given away was a premium unit. Just the Mountain Dew contest alone was about 9,000, and there were more contests, such as 1up's, where you win 1 for everyday in November. Then there are the Demo units in the stores. Thats a few thousand units there too, and all premium units. Even the ones available at that Hollywood party were too. It seems as though the people that are getting the short end of the stick are us consumers. What I hope is going on (but I bet its not) is that all this shortage is fake. How can they claim a shortage when there are all these given away in contests and demo units at just about every retailer across US and Canada? I'm hoping that a huge shipment will be delivered to the stores on Monday, making the earlier shipment ( Im guessing it came on Friday since thats when I got the phone call) a "hoax shipment''. But I could only hope. If not, I guess now is a good time as any to go camping....

There will be more premiums than Cores, guaranteed. Apart from the two stores that you quoted, every single batch of figures I've seen have shown a lot more premiums than Cores. Giving a few thousand free units away is a drop in the ocean when they're going to be shipping around a million on day one to the US alone.

I called up my local Gamestop and they said they have more Premium than Core. And I got it confirmed that my bud's preorder is going to be released at midnight. So we're all set.

Microsoft lie? Say it isn't so! I mean, that's the most reliable software company in the world. I mean, they even have the "trustworthy computing initiative"!
It's not like they ever coded a PKI signing and encryption module for Office 2000 specifically for the U.S. government, then turned around and told them it would be built-in to Office 2003 instead and if they wanted it they would have to buy Office 2003 licenses.

I dunno, maybe it has something to do with living in such a small state. Hopefully I can get one though. I'm bringing a friend so we can pass time faster and I might need someone to hold my place in line if I gotta take a leak or something. I just hope the weather is ok....

i am debating with my mother right now to get me one(i'm 17...no job...no licence...but she bought me a bmw...go figure)

She preordered one..but doesn't know if she'll go get one at launch..and cancel preorder...if i had a job i'd get it...

I leave in NYC and my local game stop is getting only 20 so I didn't pre order in time back in JUne, go figure. No I have to go to Best Buy because they get 100 units first come first serve so now i have to wait it out to see if I can get one!
