With the official launch of the xbox 360 in japan (note its the 10th in japan now). Region compatibility list have started to surface.

Hopefully I won't have to consider attempting to play any Japanese games on my XBOX 360, as the Japanese games don't exactly beat the American ones right now.

Too bad the PSP American games suck compared to the Japanese PSP games...

Well if ridge racer is region free, looks like ill be importing that 1 now! because its not out in the uk yet!

Only the US version is though, the Jap one isn't.

Let me get this straight : - the Jap version of RR6 is NOT region free but the US version IS, correct???
I'd like confirmation as I'm considering buying an import version seeing as I don't like waiting and there's no other game out there right now I fancy apart from pdz which I already own.

Correct.

The Japanese version is multi-language though, but it's only the US version which will run on PAL units, the Jap one will not.

apparently ff11 for JPN and PAL is region free (JPN Confirmed, PAL - Jan 5th)

Then why not just buy the jpn release then? Its the same price as the usa (providing the import shops not trying to rip you off) & it multi language (so it will play all in english).

Plus if you wait a good 1-3 weeks, I exspect to find used copys on ebay or yahoo.jp for dirt cheap. :P

Its up to the Publisher not Microsoft. So thats why some are and some arent.

Microsoft charge the publishers more if they require regional locks placed in the digital signature that allows the copies of that game to be ran on retail units. Some publishers are prepared to pay for that priviledge, and others, are not.

I was contemplating buying a Japanese console, but I honestly think that would cause me more inconvenience than it's worth.

I have imported before, my PSP, PS2 and Dreamcast all came from the land of the rising sun, but it's just not a good idea with the x360.

My Japanese 360 is on the way.

I prefer importing games anyway. If its anything like the xbox, its going to get some great games that didnt see a domestic release.

Metal Wolf Chaos and shikigami no shiro I and II being some of the most notable ones.
