[While we do not support piracy here at QJ.NET, we will always cover the news. Reporting on something is not the same as encouraging it - just like reporting a murder on the 10 o'clock news does not encourage you to kill people. A member of our forums has confirmed what was shown in the previous;y released video and shared the resources he used to do duplicate it - without giving an indepth "how-to" that might be construed as encouraging the piracy of Xbox games. It is our belief that this breakthrough is the first step in getting unsigned code and homebrew programs to be executed on the Xbox 360 and is a valuable piece of information that could positively benefit the Xbox 360 Community.]

I (NytriX) have figured out how it was done in the video.
(the video of the guy playing the PGR3 backup)
heres the instructions, I am currently playing Full Auto (Backed up).

It's a modified firmware of the Xbox 360 DVD-ROM drive.

As you (should) know, all Xbox 360 executables (XEX files) are signed by
Microsoft (with a private key only MS has). This means that if you try to change
anything to the XEX file, the signature will be wrong and the file will not
boot.

Now ... to protect from booting an exact 1:1 copy of a game from a DVD-+R,
microsoft gave each XEX file a 'mediaflag'. This mediaflag tells the Xbox 360
from which media (cd-r, dvd-r, dvd+r, dvd-rw, hdd, dvdxbox, dvdxbox360, ...).
Changing this mediaflag in XEX is not an option as it'll break the signature
(see above), so ... what's done in this firmware hack is 'break' the detection
of the disc.

too - We can smell a new feature for Qwix 2 Wink

The scene can expect a hack for all drives very soon (It's currently only
Hitachi) - you can be assured that it will be released although I don't think
modchips will be any kind of business as its a pure piracy mod - no homebrew at

::EDIT umm yea anyone with a 2.01 psp downgrader in their sig must be creditable:

xbox360 users, currently there is no 2.01 psp downgrader)

WOW....... I'm sorry it just looks like you've put 2+2 together to tell us it equals 4...... not how you actually do it......

umm yea we know it is a hack of the fw on the dvd drive and duh each brand and model of the drive will require a different fw. And second it almost undoubtedly needs to be hooked up to a pc to flash the fw till exploits allow flashing of the drive which may or may not ever come.

This news post is absolutely meaningly less..... unless you can quote everything that is actually meaningfull in each thread, I am not going to believe it. It is late but I have tried skimming through it and I see no solid proof or any of the sorts that someone has replicated what he did. Everyone is probably around 90-95% sure of what the guy did but no one has yet done it.

And don't you think we'd be seeing success stories or failures and even a new news posting on xboxhacker for something this big? Umm yea....I dunno who does the news here but they seriously jumped the gun. IF I am wrong I apologize right now.

I'm sorry but I have been around the scene back when they were doing this stuff with xbox 1 and posts like these that have nothing of real value like the TITLE suggests gets on everyones nerves.

More news posts I see like these makes me wonder why my real ground breaking news alert of PSIX didn't get posted, oh yea that is right there was no proof other than PICS and the mods did not believe it....damn we all know that wasn't real.....oh wait it was real.....and every OTHER psp news site posted it FIRST despite me notify pspupdates long before.

OK this looks really really great what he has accomplished but i have read all the links nytrix posted in his first post and to be honest, i dont understand anything out of it :P like which thing to do first, and what are all the numbers in the link's first post :S i'm probably noob but i think a lot of other people have the same problem as i have so i'm wondering can anybody PLZ make some readme or actual step by step guide i think very much people will appreciate that (like myself)

Frank, let me simplify this for you, you would ;
1)Have to own a Hitach 360 drive
2)Do some soldering (open up the beast and void your warranty)
3)Know how to make this 360 drive's modified firmware which breaks down the media flag detection, (from what I think I may have possibly understood...:S) seeing as no-one has released the modified firmware. Which was probably the hardest part of the whole procedure.
In other words unless you could have hacked the 360 yourself before, you still won't be able to do it now.

I agree with glitchbit, I think Nytrix is full of it. He has shown no proof of reproducing what TheSpecialist and co. did and acts as if these links somehow will allow everyone to play backups... I don't think he has played a backup and until he posts some proof like TheSpecialist's video of a 360 with a dvd-r in it being read and the cables going straight into the tv without any hidden areas... I'll remain a skeptic.

Sorry For this confusion. I did NOT come up with this hack. I recreated the hack using the instruction i provided. and what I did on my own was install the modified firmware on my hitachi drive. So YES it does work, I've tested it. And NO i did not make this hack. I'm just confirming it. Once again sorry for the confustion.

I will not be releasing the modified firmware that I have created also. I'm not going to with due respect to Team Executer and the people who figured it out.
I just posted to tell everyone that i have re-created the hack using TE's tutorials.

You have not confirmed anything , just words , release it , people will still have to change the key to make it work, each Drive haves a unique key just like the XBox1 HDD, so releasing it will not create the destruction of the planet , seeing is believing

Team Xecuter has nothing to do with this hack, its simply the site you copied and pasted your entire text from.

Its funny because someone is going to release the instructions on how to do it and that person is probably going to get all the credit. So all the hackers trying to keep this protected will be a waist of time. If you discover something, freaking cool share it, if not...don’t even mention it. It's like me saying " I have done the unexpected. I have modded my Xbox 360 to play PC Games. I have released a video to prove to you all this is possible.... but i wont be releasing it because I don’t believe in piracy".... Why even freaking mention it. I'm sorry but if in those mess of links do have the intructions of "how to modify the firmware" properly and the tools to use to do it, then everyone would be doing it and there'd have been the compiled firmware hack floating around long before you posted a damn thing Nytrix.

And you have nothing to lose by posting it Nytrix, no one here I do not think, knows your true identity where as the specailist is suposedly known so if he did something he'd get a knock at the door and at any rate most people would simply use a different s/n or upload it to some anonymous site and probably even use a proxy if they are really paranoid bout it.

I have no doubt in my mind that Nytrix is full of it, to bad the community is not a mod or this thread would have been deleted.

As soon as we figure out how to hook up the DVD Drive up to a PC it should be easy. Im hearing reports of having to patch each image, is this some kind of generic "Change Media Flag 'x' to 'y'" Or is each game a task upon itself? Even though i have no problems with piracy i think at 60USD a pop they are asking for it, even Cliffie B (head of Epic Games IE UT series) says he isnt suprised at the rise in piracy of video games. And his thoughts on counter acting it would be for all games to cost $20, a reasonable price to him.

Im hearing reports of having to patch each image, is this some kind of generic "Change Media Flag 'x' to 'y'" Or is each game a task upon itself? Even though i have no problems with piracy i think at 60USD a pop they are asking for it, even Cliffie B (head of Epic Games IE UT series) says he isnt suprised at the rise in piracy of video games. And his thoughts on counter acting it would be for all games to cost $20, a reasonable price to him.

Plus this hack doesnt give out the ability to run homebrew either. Least not yet. This thread will stay for viewing, but for now, lets let this hack die out on the forums for now till more news comes out thats worthwhile and that will draw less issues.
