What do you guys think of the new Dashboard?

Here's what we just learned from Microsoft in their round-table discussion on Xbox Live and the new Dashboard. First, the impetus for re-designing the dash was that the current content navigation is too difficult. • Playing from the hard drive still requires games to be in the drive while you play, which means you can't just load all your games onto your Xbox and swap games from your couch.
• Hard drive gaming is mostly for saving load times.

• The current blade-based dash design still exists inside the Guide, and they've ported a lot of the current dash features there so you can actually access much of it from inside games. No browsing marketplace though.
• The new dashboard is fast and fluid, getting rid of the delays that come up when you're switching blades (occasionally) and loading up the thumbnails of your XBLA games. There's also an Apple TV-like reflection under each icon representing games, and the whole thing looks vaguely Cover Flow-like.
• There's a new Quick Launch feature from the Guide (the thing that pops up when you click the Xbox button on your controller) that lets you switch to any game you currently have installed. XBLA games or retail (if the disc is in your drive).
• Avatars will be used in XBLA games, Xbox 360 retail games and Xbox Primetime games.
• Avatars will be available for everyone, even Xbox Live Silver members. If you don't like them, you can still use gamerpics instead.
• "Primetime" games are like gameshows and will be more of a streamed experience rather than a boxed game or an XBLA game. It's a third type of game on the Xbox.
• All of the marketplace content will be listed on xbox.com so you can browse and queue up downloads for them to your Xbox. If your console is on, it seems like stuff is downloaded as you add them to your queue.
• The 8-people party system lets you basically chat with all your friends no matter where you are in any game, and then be able to drag each one through games with you. People who don't have the game the party leader loaded will get a screen telling them to go buy it.

I really hate it. It looks so gimmicky, and I think the dashboard is perfect as it is. Right now its both usable and looks quite nice.

Although some of the features that come with the dashboard are very nice, such as installing a game to the hd for faster load times.

It looks good, but I much prefer the blades just from looking at it. However, I am sure things will change when I get to use it.

That in-game dashboard looks the sex. Good to see they have retained the blades in some part of the update.

The in-game dashboard reminds me of the guide in Games for Windows Live.

My biggest issue, is that when you navigate to the right, the slides actually disappear to the left. They should, in my mind, remain on the screen. Disappearing kind of ruins the ease of navigation.

I'm really concerned about that.

Other than that, It looks fine.

I really dont understand this whole ripping a game in the HDD...Are you going to be ripping a few chunks of the game or the whole 8 g.b disk...

is this kinda like pc where you need to have the disk in the drive but the game is still being loaded from the HDD?If so shouldn't that lock out anyone with a 20gb HDD...

IF it the 2ed part it may really come in handily to alot of people...Let just say one of your disk are ****ed up...Alll you need to do now is get a copy from friends or just rent it.Rip it to the HDD and now you can play the full game with a messed up disk..

It is th ewhole disc, and yes its like pc. and yes people who supported microsoft early on (like me) and have 20 gig drives and refuse to upgrad ebecause of the over priced HDD's (120 bucks for 120 gigs HAHA!) are screwed over by wonderful microsoft.

I don't like it. It is too simple. But I am glad that you have a choice between the old and the new rather than scrapping the old.

I like it more than the old one, but i think it is bland. It's like the sony XMB which i find to be better looking and more intuitive than the old xbox dashboard.

Only one thing, are we able use the old themes for the new dashboard?

Correct me if I am wrong.

That just means the "xbox guide" button now provides you with a mini-blade system. You still have to use this new UI on the main menu.

Just go to about 4:05 in this video, to see what they mean when they say "The current blade-based dash design still exists inside the guide".

For me it looks meh I think there should be an option to keep the old dashboard it's much better than this so called "Xbox Experience" it just looks to simple I mean was it really that hard to find something in the old dashboard?

Thanks to my friend that got the mod chip on his 360. I think its going to be great! better then the ugly blades.

and I think everybody will switch.

I think Microsoft is doing a good job in trying to make the 360 more innovative than it already is. The new interface looks awesome(regardless of who they might have ripped off, lolz), and the avatars are a nice touch, too...but 360 needs a web browser(if it doesn't already have one)

for situations where you dont want to leave the room to go online, or if your pc is being fixed.

I think it looks ugly, but its less laggy, so i guess its an improvement.
