[RELEASE] PSPCAP32: Amstrad CPC Emulator for PSP v1.0.1
Hi All,
Caprice32 is one of the best emulator of the Amstrad CPC home computer
series running on Windows and Unix, written by Ulrich Doewich.
This emulator faithfully imitates the CPC464, CPC664, and CPC6128 models
(see caprice32 project).
I've sucessfully modified, fixed bugs and port the source code of the 4.2.0
version using PSPSDK environment. It's now working fine on PSP !
It has been developped on linux for Firmware 2.5 using the great GTA eloader
(0.97) but it should work properly on other firmwares. I've integrated a 1.5FW
binary version (kxploit).
How to use it ? Everything is in the README file.
It's a first release and work still remain to improve speed, load .zip files etc ...
This package is under GPL Copyright, read COPYING file for more information
about it.
PS: Special thanks to Danzel and Jeff Chen for their virtual keyboard, and to all
PSPSDK developpers.
Enjoy, :icon_smil
Zx.

The more you fail, the more you have a chance that it will work in the end.

Great work so far...
The only problem I have is how do you press Return/Enter once the game as loaded as (triangle) does not work.

The best way to use this emulator is to install Caprice32 on your PC, run the game and then save a snapshot file (as i've done for "Sorcery" as an example).

Inside PSPCAP32 you can load that snapshot and play :icon_smil (nothing to do with the keyboard).
If you want to load a .dsk file, you have to run the game as we did it 25 years ago on the CPC, by entering command (such as: run "myprog.bin" and press ENTER etc ...). It's not very convenient, even with the virtual keyboard.
;)The more you fail, the more you have a chance that it will work in the end.

Tried and it worked sweeeet!
2 other points
1. I could not get it load on my other PSP 2.60FW
2. Plays really slow, any chance I can overclock it to 333?

For the point 2, many improvements can be done in the z80 processor emulator to speed it up. I will also put an option menu (as any other emulator) and let you specify the clock frequency you want (up to 333).

Thats cool ZX...
The CPC was my boyhood machine so I love it dearly.
An ajustable screen resolution would also be cool but hay I am just glad for the emu.

Excellent. I've been dying for a CPC emulator, even though I just upgraded to 2.6 firmware for FM Handheld.
One request for a future version - the ability to remap the buttons to whatever CPC key we want. The reason for this is so that I can play Renegade, which used the joystick for movement and three cursor keys for various attacks. I could just about cope with the d-pad but it'd be easier to be able to set L and R to be Left and Right, with X as jump.
Either way, let's hope this emulator keeps up. It's very promising.

This emulator should work with 2.6 FW, i've to debug it on 2.6 to see what's going on. I will see with a friend who has upgraded his PSP.

Loading Batman on PSPCAP32
Hi everybody I'm just new on these forums,
1st of all a big thaaaaankyou to ZX81 for doing such wonderful emulator on PSP cause I had an Amstrad 6128 which I loved for so many years and now I can re-live all those wonderful times I spent with the computer when I was just a child!
Now I have loaded the game Batman by Ocean Software by making the file batman.sna on the Caprice32 menu option and copying the batman.dsk file as you explained on an earlier post, but the problem is that the keys won't work on the game as it does not start by clicking any button, how do I start the game?
Thank you for your help and expecially for such a wonderful emulator!!!
PS: If the emulator could load the zipped files it should be really amaaaazingLast edited by JCORR76; 04-22-2006 at 03:09 PM.

First of all you have to save the snapshot under the PC version of Caprice32 AFTER loading the game. For example, if you want to play batman on PSPCAP32, first run batman on Caprice32 up to the main game screen (where you have to choose between "PLAY THE GAME" "SELECT THE KEYS" etc ... )

Yes it shouldn't be too hard :)

Oh yeah, it works perfectly fine. I was just spending about a week being a little upset that might never get to play the best version of Head over Heels on the toilet. Which is clearly where all games should be played. Probably.

There was already a CPC emulator (called CPCPSP) but i just can't find sources (even if it was based on GNU sources of Caprice32), and it was very limited, no keyboard, can't browse directories and load snapshots or disk files etc ...
The more you fail, the more you have a chance that it will work in the end.
