Red face [Release] PSPVBA: GameBoy Advance Emulator for PSP v1.0.1 (beta)

    Hi All,

VisualBoyAdvance is an emulator for GameBoy Advance console.
    See http://vba.ngemu.com/ for further informations.

PSPVBA is a port on PSP of the Linux version 1.7.2 of VisualBoyAdvance with SDL support.

How to use it ? Everything is in the README.txt file.

It's a first beta release, and as we could expect, it doesn't run full speed !

I've done many optimizations to reach the full speed, in particular i've translated all
the original source code from c++ to pure C langage for performance purposes,
    but that's not enough ...

Nevertheless, all required features for an emulator are already presents such as
sound, "save states", customizable keys mapping, screenshots etc ...

The sound suport is based on the work of psp298, but it is not really good (mainly due to speed).

Sources are included, and this package is under the GNU public license,
read COPYING.txt file for more information about it.

    Enjoy, :)

    Zx.

It's great that someone else is looking into the GBA situation. I can't wait to get home and check it out. :)

So where does that leave you; any ideas for future optimizations yet? (if you don't mind me asking)

I've succeed to play simple games (such as space invaders) ... But don't dream to run Need for speed or Advance GT2 fullspeed ;) ...

I think if he made it so it didn't use SDL it would be a bit faster, but I'm not positive.
QJ loads way 2 slow & the theme is ugly as hell, gone are the glory days

I've been getting white screens with Golden Sun and the Pokemon games. I guess the emulator is still in its early stages.
Good to see someone is working on the GBA, keep up the good work.

Tried it out... ran Castlevania AOS at about 35 fps no sound... perfect rendering.
The sound when on is still horrid squeling
Also the gui/menu/opening credits intro can be confusing and is annoying
Overall maybe the best GBA emu out on psp so far...

Anyway great to see you are on the job keep us with some frequent updates and we'll love ya.

Great news. I hope you continue this to become like the rest of your emulators (but I understand it's harder since it's not one of the classic systems). Anyways, good job and keep it up. You are a great programmer and I have faith in you. I know all the people who didn't appreciate your old emulators will regret being ****s to you.

It's not an update. It's a completely new port.

Amazing zx-81, yet another release from you. And as QJ said, knowing that your behind the programming here, i can expect GREAT things to come out of this project. Rock on man, rock on.

EDIT: I just want to put some input on this. I have tried it, ok now here it goes. It would be cool if you can assign ALL keys. Because I would like the START button be the same as pressing the START button on a GBA, the same with SELECT, so they correspond, you get me? Then it would be cool, that i can setup triangle to access the menu, etc. And also it would be nice so you don't need default.gba to load up VBA, and I think loading up other games is broken? But this is all can be fixed in your next release, and as you said, this is your initial release! Thanks for taking up the arduous task! :Punk:

Amazing work, better than the other 2 previous attempts by others already.

So far i tried Pokemon Leaf green, which gave a white screen and freezes up the PSP
Golden Sun 1, which worked great, very playable especialy with a 4 or so FrameSkip on
and Final Fantasy Tactics advanced which seems to run pretty well at about a 4 frameskip aswell.

Keep up the good work, can't wait for future releases.
